Last night we had some friends text us with the wonderful and unexpected idea to enjoy the cool evening with a bonfire at our place. (Not-So Eloquent Translation: Our friends sent us a text to let us know they were inviting themselves to our house to have smores and a bonfire.)
I am so glad they did. It was such a joy to spend the time with them and our boys around the campfire. (This pic of our oldest son was one of my favorites.)
You know, there were will always be a hundred things that you could be doing. And yes, when you choose not to do them, you may end up staying up much later to get some of that work done. But in the end, all of your work is done in vain, if you don’t stop and enjoy the very people you are working so hard for.
I am so thankful to our friends for crashing our evening with unexpected joy and for helping us put on the brakes to feel the warmth of friends and family, stuff our face with smores and cinnamon rolls, and enjoy what matters most.
