I can remember years ago when the movie “Titanic” came out. Audiences sat for hours watching a love affair that likewise, only lasted for hours. I do want to make it clear that I personally am not endorsing the movie, but I do want to use this love story to illustrate a greater love story.
In the movie, young Rose, was engaged to obviously the wrong man. She was in a wealthy family and engaged to a man who was highly esteemed. Still, her fiancé was far from tender and rarely seemed captivated, let alone even interested in Rose. In comes Jack, a young artist with little to no money but full of life and spirit. It can almost go without saying what unfolds. The two, who hardly even know each other, fall madly in love which infuriates Rose’s family.
In the memorable scene of the Titanic sinking, Jack and Rose cling to the front of the quickly sinking ship. Jack asks Rose, “Do you trust me?” Rose replies, “I trust you!” The ship sinks and among the rubble Jack finds a floating plank to place Rose on, keeping her body out of the freezing cold water. Rose survives. Jack does not. In the end of the movie after Rose dies at a much older age. We see Rose, young again and meeting young Jack aboard the beautiful, restored Titanic.
It was quite the love story, but nothing compared to the way God loves you. God loves you. He is captivated with you. He humbled himself and became poor, taking the form of a man in Jesus Christ, just to get his “ticket” to be close to you. Perhaps you already know this, perhaps you don’t. Perhaps you know what it feels like to fall in the love with Jesus or perhaps you feel like you can’t for fear of how your friends or family will react. Either way, what matters most is that you know that you can trust Him.
Whether your ship is sailing along smoothly, or if your ship is sinking, there is no better place than in his arms. Salvation and a life filled with passion are found when you can honestly tell Jesus, “I trust you!”
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
