Any parent who has ever potty-trained a child can tell you one thing: There is going to be accidents. Days go by and your child seems to be doing great. Then it happens. You can see it coming on, first on the child’s face and then in the child’s stance. You try to stop it but there is no use. Right in front of your eyes, your potty-trained child proceeds to create a grand mess for you to clean up.
Any parent can also tell you that, being a parent, you are going to have accidents. Just the other day, I found myself “having an accident.” I should have been able to control myself but I didn’t. It just slipped out. My face changed. My stance changed. Then I proceeded with a verbal mess all over my son. Though the words were not harsh, my tone most definitely was, and I knew I was in the wrong. Thank God that apologies, like wipes, can clean up even the worst accidents.
When you “have an accident” be sure to clean it up quickly. No one likes to be around the kid with the stinky diaper or the parent with the stinky attitude. Clean it up quickly because that is what matters most and don’t give up on the potty training.
