Newborns are fascinating little creatures. Something about their very being seizes the attention of a passer-by and keeps onlookers captivated in a gaze of sheer awe. Everyone wants to hold the baby.
What about newborns is so fascinating? It is hard to say. Truly, they don’t do much. They eat. They poop. They sleep. They cry. Perhaps it is simply their newness. I could sit for hours just watching the slight changes in my daughter’s face as she tries to focus on mine. I ponder the magnitude of her thought process as her brain interprets all her tiny eyes take in. I still find her to be one of the most incredible things to watch even with her being my fifth child.
When I first started to seek Christ, one of the first scriptures that caught my attention was 2 Corinthians 5:17. It says, “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come.” Recently, I have found myself once again reflecting on that verse.
What do the newly “born again” Christians do? Truly, they don’t do much. They read the word of God frequently. They seem to get rid of what mess they need to get rid of effortlessly as the word of God
flushes through their life. They rest while God works. They call out to God with their needs and He hears them and responds though they lack an eloquent prayer language. They are new in Christ and captivating to
watch as they try to focus their eyes on Him.
New life is mysterious, amazing, fascinating, and incredible. If you have the chance to hold a newborn baby, be sure to take advantage of it. It will bless you and teach you about what matters in this life. If you have the
